David Iglesias was a Dept. of Justice expert on voter fraud before he was fired for not pursuing voter fraud (CREW)

New Mexico’s U.S. Attorney David Iglesias was asked to teach other Justice Department prosecutors about voter fraud a year before he was fired.  Yet, he was fired for not doing enough about voter fraud.  Someone is not telling the truth in this case.  We already know that two members of the New Mexico Congressional Delegation called Mr. Iglesias about a pending voter fraud case.  For that reason, CREW has already asked for ethics investigations of Senator Pete Domenici and Representative Heather Wilson.

Groups Call for E-Voting Paper Trail Legislation (PC World)

A coalition of voting rights groups on Monday called on the U.S. Congress to pass legislation that would require electronic voting machines to have printers attached as a way to audit the touch-screen results.But the lack of a paper trail for many e-voting machines was only one problem among many during the 2006 U.S. elections, said speakers at the Elections: Looking Forward conference, sponsored by Common Cause, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights and other groups. Many of the problems attributed to e-voting machines were caused by a lack of training for poll workers or administrative mistakes, said Efrain Escobedo, director of voter engagement at the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials.

Feinstein will pursue paper record at polls (San Francisco Chronicle)

Bill would also require routine audits of voting systems

Washington — The new Democratic Congress, concerned about the perils of electronic voting, is moving quickly to require states to keep paper records of every vote cast and conduct regular audits of voting systems.

California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the new chairwoman of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, plans to unveil a bill later this month to set national standards to guard against fraud or manipulation of electronic voting machines.

A similar measure was introduced in the House this week by Rep. Rush Holt, D-N.J., and has the backing of top House leaders, including Speaker Nancy Pelosi of San Francisco.

Report: Election riddled with deceptions (Examiner.com)

BALTIMOREThe 2006 November elections in Maryland were riddled with problems, ranging from voter intimidation to disability access issues, according to a report released Monday by the Maryland Election Protection Coalition.

The coalition’s report is based on hundreds of complaints from Maryland voters received, including long lines, with waiting times over two hours in some precincts; voter registration problems; lack of poll worker training and deceptive practices.
